How to minimize the look of pores
You can't permanently shrink your pores; their size is largely set by genetics, skin type, and age. You can make them look smaller by keeping them clear, managing oil, and protecting the skin around them from sun damage.
Why pores look bigger
- Oil and buildup. Sebum and dead cells collect in the opening and stretch it visibly.
- Blackheads. Oxidized plugs make pores look dark and larger.
- Loss of firmness. With age and sun exposure, the skin around pores supports them less.
- Genetics and skin type. Oilier skin tends to have more visible pores.
What helps
- Exfoliate with BHA. Salicylic acid can clear inside the pore. See AHA vs BHA.
- Cleanse gently, twice a day. Harsh cleansers can trigger more oiliness.
- Use non-comedogenic products. Especially sunscreen and moisturizer.
- Wear sunscreen daily. UV damage weakens the support around pores over time.
- Consider retinoids. They are widely used for pores and texture; introduce them separately from acids.
What doesn't help
Ice, "pore-closing" splashes, and squeezing don't change pore size. Squeezing can damage the skin and leave marks.
Where toner pads fit
An exfoliating pad is a convenient way to do step one. The medicube Zero Pore Pad is marketed specifically for pores; if it seems strong for your skin, see gentler alternatives.
